Description:

The Sailor Hanafuda Tsukimi-de-ippai KOP has a graphite ebonite body and a dark red cap. Tsukimi refers to the Japanese festival of gazing at the full moon, and Ippai means nothing more than Sake and shows a full cup of rice wine on the pen.

The Sailor KOP Hanafuda fountain pens with decorated ebonite bodies are made using Yubi maki-e, a technique in which patterns are printed on the material and then finished by hand. It is an affordable solution to enjoying Maki-e, and the method is sustainable.

Hanafuda, which translates to 'flower cards', are traditional Japanese playing cards that have a rich history. They originated from a blend of Japanese and Western card games introduced by Dutch traders in the 18th century, making them a fascinating part of Japan's cultural evolution.

These cards, with their beautiful images representing the twelve months of the year, have been used for centuries for various gambling games, including Godori. Each of the 48 cards in a standard deck carries a symbolic meaning interwoven with Japanese nature and culture. Due to their artistic value and historical significance, hanafuda are not only playing cards but also highly valued collector's items.
