The Nakaya Green Cat Paradise Yakoh Maki-e is made on a byakudan-nuri base. 

The pen body covered with silver leaf is the base for this green cat paradise pen. Afterwards, it is painted with special transparant green urushi layers creating a forest green depth. After curing, the surface is polished and prepared to do Yakoh maki-e : cats are painted in a thick black urushi. With time the greenish shuai urushi will enlighten and the cats will stand out on the silver-green background. A lovely pen in evolution!

Nakaya ranks among Japan's oldest and most important producers of writing instruments. The history of Nakaya is closely tied up with that of Platinum. For one thing, the two companies share the same founder, Syunichi Nakata, who started out in business in 1919. In time, the brand name "Nakaya" disappeared and made way for "Platinum". Today Toshiya Nakata, the grandson of Syunichi Nakata, is the name behind both of these world-renowned brands.
