Description:

The Nakaya Desert Moon caught our attention. A caravan of camels walks their way through the desert. It is a discrete yet special design. A pitch black roiro background is sprinkled with gold in different stages and a part of the pen (where the camels are walking) is covered with shuai to create some depth. The camels are placed on top of this layer in thick black urushi or Yakoh-maki-e. The section reveals a desert moon with one camel in the middle. If you turn the pen slowly the camels are walking downwards and they seem to disappear behind the horizon. Neat!

Since 2000, Nakaya made its resurrection and is led to this day by Toshiya Nakata, the grandson of Syunichi Nakata. Only Maki-e artisans and artists from established studios create the Nakaya writing instruments. The sober designs make the Nakaya fountain pens universal and timeless. The beautiful lacquer and maki-e techniques make them special. Therefore, these writing instruments are precious and a treasure for any collection.

Shinichi Yoshida is the manager in charge. He was born in 1964 in the city of Hiroshima and worked for Platinum Co. from 1991 until 1998. On Mr. Nakata's request, he joined the Nakaya company shortly after. He is one of the most influential people within the company, designing the pens and new artwork designs for Wajima artisans to create. On top of that, Yoshida-San is a praised nibmeister, a profession that leaves many pen enthusiasts in awe. He ensures that every Nakaya nib leaves the factory in absolutely perfect writing condition.
